Missing: Husband and Camera

with willie gone away on his road trip, i'm spending most of my time watching tv and working on various things. i do have a hatchling completed! but no camera to show it.
i figure i can use the time i have to myself, getting as much as i can made to prepare for when willie returns with the camera. hopefully that should carry me through the week if i post one item per night. but, he did upload some pics from his trip so far! he's taken some really great pictures! so no worries, i do have at least something to show!

we went out last night for a friend's birthday and afterwards, me and willie got some crepes. willie got a dulce de leche and nutella one. i got this one....mmmm smores

Puffy Pumpkin Pecan Pancakes

we made a trip to williams sonoma yesterday. willie's parents bought me a gift card there and it was just burning a hole in my pocket! one of the things i bought was their new filled pancake pan. we also got the pumpkin pecan butter and pumpkin waffle mix.
mush all that together and you get pumpkin pecan filled pancakes!!!

oh so good! i still need to work on my technique. it's really hard to flip them with the filling.

i'm totally freaking out right now....i'm in a treasury on etsy, AND it was featured on the front page!!! i made 2 sales in the last 20 minutes! the piece that was featured sold almost instantly, sooooo i'm not on the front page anymore. but of course i'm not complaining! i was seriously having doubts about whether what i made was any good. but just within the last 24 hours, i've had a request from the person who i made my first sale to, to make 3 more similar pieces for a set. made it into a treasury AND onto the front page of etsy. and i've made 2 more sales! it feels really good. and a serious motivator too!
i didn't actually ever post the piece that was in the treasury on here.

Freaky Funky Florals

so i recently listed an aceo on etsy...i think i've unintentionally created a series. when i doodle in my sketch books, alot of them somehow look like flowers. just....a little weird. but they still make me think of flowers. we'll see where it goes. i'd like to make them with different mediums though. i'm actually in the process of making the daisy aceo with fabric and embroidery.

October Blog Carnival

i've been struggling to post this month so far! i've been trying to fill up the shop some more and my goal has been to add 1 item a day. i've already missed a day. but my items just take longer to make!
anywhooooo.....onto the blog carnival post....

i decided to go with the 2nd theme which is to give a holiday recipe.
i figured an apple themed recipe would be good. what with all of the apple picking i'm sure many of you have done....wish i could have. there were plans at one point to go, but they fell through. this would have been one of the recipes i was going to try (i wish i could remember what blog i got this recipe off of):

apple pie jam

6 cups peeled and diced apples
½ cup water
½ teaspoon butter
3 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
Mix all of the ingredients into a large pot. Stir them until all combined. Bring to a boil on medium heat. Cook the jam until it reached 220 degrees. (see my note at the bottom) Pour into jars and top with lid. Flip the jars on their lids to cool. The jars should be sealed when completely cooled.

Some of my jams have been really thick when I cook to this degree, so with this jam I cooked for 20 minutes then I used the frozen plate method. You freeze a plate, then put a little bit on the plate, stick it back in the freezer for a few seconds then check the consistency of it. If it is not as thick as you want continue to cook the jam in 5 minute increments until you get it the consistency you want. I cooked this jam for 20-25 minutes.

i adore kokeshi! i think that if i were to collect something, that would be it. just looking at my kokeshi we bought in japan makes me happy.

First ACEO, First Sale!

i posted my first ACEO on the shop. i've been wanting to try my hand at selling them ever since i started doing ATC's.
i figured this would be a good business move because even if they don't sell well, i can make them alot more frequently than i can my bigger items, so i can keep my shop at the top of list, or at least away from the bottom, when people search. :)
plus it's nice to have a little instant gratification with my artwork.

the first shop is baby friendly beads where she sells functional and safe jewelry for nursing mommies. you know how babies LOVE to grab things! well the jewelry in this shop was made with that in mind. keeps the baby busy and gives them something else to grab onto other than mommy's hair while nursing, and they're designed not to break! smart woman! i'm not a mom, and i want to buy these! they're lovely necklaces either way! you can tell she really puts alot of thought and care into each one.

6 things about me

and on to the 6 things about me....
1. when i eat, i compose my bites. i don't always finish my food so my philosophy is, every bite needs to be the best. if something falls off the fork, i have to get it back on there.

2. i LOVE soggy cereal! when i make a bowl, i'll let it sit until it gets mushy.

3. i hate when my fingernails get anything under them. but once i start cleaning under one nail, i absolutely have to do them all. willie figured that out so sometimes when he catches me picking my nails, he'll grab my hands to stop me..mid clean. drives me nuts!

4. you can always tell when i'm running a conversation through my head or saying what should have been said in my head. how? because my facial expression changes and reacts as if i'm actually having the conversation. not "holy cow that woman is insane" reactions. just a smirk, a smile...a raised eyebrow. i caught my mom doing it one day. i asked her if she was telling that person off. she said, yeah how can you tell? because you're smirking. nice to know where i get it. wow, i sound totally insane.

5. i hate to drive. absolutely can't stand driving. it just makes me nervous.

6. i blush really easily. most of the time, it's when i realize that i'm the center of attention. i get uncomfortable and then when i feel my face getting red...well that just makes it worse.

so there ya go. i'm slightly off...a tad.
