Oh Baz!

i saw a preview for the new baz luhrmann film...australia awhile ago when i saw sex and the city.
i gotta tell ya, i'm ecstatic!
i LOVE baz luhrmann. his movies have such a distinct style. they're gorgeous!
i haven't been following what baz has been up to since it's been so long since his last movie (2001, moulin rouge) so i didn't know anything about this. but i instantly fell in love with the movie. i had no idea until the end that it was a baz luhrmann film. but wasn't surprised when i saw it was him. i really cannot wait to see this movie. and i'm so happy he hasn't disappeared off the face of the earth. baz, please don't make us wait so long for another one of your gorgeous brilliant movies!

would you believe i am actually working on my sewing machine! it's been so long! the past couple of days i have been sewing scraps together into some totally spontaneous and sloppily cut log cabin blocks. they go so fast too!
these are a couple of my favorites:


i'm going to trim them down to 6.5 inch squares when i'm done and then do some solid sashing or something. that's still up in the air. but..yay! i'm actually sewing! :)

Soho Days

we went to soho yesterday to do a little bit of shopping. they had $12 jeans at old navy so we had to check that out.
got some yummy lunch at soho park. such a cute little place to eat. ivy all over the walls and benches so it felt like you were actually eating in a park.

i got a yummy grilled cheese sandwich with gruyere cheese, pesto and tomato. willie got a cheeseburger and we shared some fries. they came with some really yummy dipping sauces. we chose roasted red pepper and a spicy ketchup.

after a bit of shopping we decided to get some dessert. when willie told me we were near rice to riches i knew i had to have that.
i got the french toast rice pudding and willie got cheese cake with a cherry burst topping. that topping was seriously amazing.

it was a good day.
sidenote...i love my iphone. i took all these photos with my iphone camera. it takes pretty darn good pictures!

Drip drip drip

i actually got smart tonight and decided to do as much as i can assembly line style on the hatchlings. so right now they're drying with their first layer of gesso. then it's on to the paper mache step. after that....it's time to gussy them up! the fun part. next design is rolling around in my head right now.
i had a bit of fun in my sketch book last night and blew some watered down acrylic around on the page.....

i see a bug, willie sees a horse.
the lighting is annoying me in the pictures but i'm an impatient girl, it's 9 at night and i can't wait until tomorrow to post.

yummy berries

updated the shop again. added a new piece. i also think i've finally come up with a good idea for photographing everything for the shop.
up till now the photos just weren't quite right for me. so i spent today taking different pictures trying to come up with a good way to present them. i had really good light so i figured i should take advantage.
i started with this, which is just too flat.

i tried a different background color. ick


we're getting somewhere with this one. i like it. just not for the store. i want to be able to keep a consistency with the photos and i don't think i could pull this off every time.

i like that this gives it depth. i also like that it's kind of a before and after with the plain wood pieces as background.
and as you've probably guessed, this is my newest addition to the shop

well i'm finally getting around to posting my july etsy purchase. i needed to buy some new ceramic bowls for eleanor. she's been eating and drinking out of plastic ones and the poor thing is breaking out on her chin. so i found some really cute ones on etsy from double star design. i'm using her picture from the store just cause i'm lazy.

in retrospect, i should have bought the medium sized bowls instead of the small but i'm makin' them work! it just means i have to fill her water bowl more often. which is actually a good thing cause that means she'll definitely always have fresh water.
money is a little tight so i'm not sure if i'll be able to do an august purchase. but i'm gonna try.
also, i added a link on the side here to my etsy shop. thanks mom for pointing out that was lacking! :) i didn't even know it wasn't there!

Love silhouettes!

i finished another piece for my shop this week! another silhouette like the first two i sold when i opened my first shop.
i still need to have them close that one. but i'm having a hard time letting it go since that's the one that has my first sales on it!
so here's the next piece that's going up in the store.

i gave it a slight purple wash.

this is addicting and i'm off to make more! :)

i think of grapes when i see these. she photographed them so well too! a wonderful selection of beautiful handmade jewelry. you can really tell she takes her time putting these together. mmmm.....they look so yummy!

So Lucky

so last week i brought my latest two hatchlings to work. there are a couple of ladies there that are always interested in seeing what i'm up to. so i wanted to show them. afterwards i had them sitting on my cubicle wall.
well, one of the ladies decided she wanted the green one and then one of my friends i work with said he wanted my black spidey one.
so i sold them before i ever got to put them in my shop! well actually, i'm still listing them there so at least they will be there for people to see with the sold stuff.
willie said my only problem is being able to get my work noticed because my friends buy them too fast. and he's right! but if that's my only thing i have to complain about, i'll take it! i'm very lucked and blessed that i have so many wonderfully supportive people in my life!
