happy memorial day everyone! hope you all had a nice long weekend. i know i did! we spent the weekend upstate visiting some friends and their oh so adorable baby girl!
also, last week willie went to the HOW design conference in boston and he brought back a few goodies. one of my favorites...these posters for some paper company.

i'm just LOVING them! they're gorgeous! i'm thinking they would be perfect in a baby's room. so i guess we'll just put them away for now. we don't really have the space for them.
also, here's an in progress pic of my current wood piece i'm working on. a nice tiffany blue.

so very close to being finished. yes it looks familiar. i really loved the tree i put on my
tote so i decided to use it on another project. i'll be changing it up a little bit though.
and then i actually finished a painting i've had in mind for a bit. not really sure what i'm going to do with it. i bought a canvas pad at michaels and i'm not really sure how to finish this off. the canvas is starting to unravel on the edges.

AND after seeing the tutorial for creating a repeating pattern (i lost the link...was it on design sponge?? i know everyone's seen it at this point), i was super excited to give it a try. a couple of years ago, i applied at FIT. i wanted to major in surface and textile design. i didn't get in. i should say though, they didn't say no. they just felt that i need to "beef up" my portfolio a bit. so i was supposed to go back after i did that. i just never did. what a quitter i am. anyway, i do still love the idea of creating my own patterns. so this tutorial just made me insanely happy.
here's one i did just kinda doodling and goofing around:

i haven't been able to see what it looks like as a repeat because i don't have a scanner yet. so once i can scan it in (taking pictures is just wonky) i can play around a little bit more with it.
and last but not least, a few small things i picked up at a thrift store upstate this weekend.

this is very exciting for me. i'm always extremely jealous of everyone that can just hop on over to a thrift store and find things like this. unfortunately, i live in new york city. so thrift stores NEVER carry cool things like this. and if they did, i'll guarantee you, they wouldn't be $1. i didn't have much cash on me (didn't know we were stopping into a thrift store) so i couldn't buy as much as i would have liked to. they had ALOT. loads of old buttons on cards, alot more thread on wooden spools. so many neat old buttons in baggies. costume jewelry galore. it was a beautiful thing.
so there you have it. i'm also working on a bit of a schedule for posting. i'm trying to give posting daily a go. and i figured a schedule would be fun. i know it sounds restrictive, but it really isn't! i've seen a few blogs do it, and i like the idea. i still need to figure out a couple more days and i'll be good to go.
