Oh, you pretty things

And yet another week has gone by. Why can't I seem to post more frequently? I'm such a procrastinator. I'm very excited! Tomorrow is the Open Air Book Fair down on Prince St. Once every year the Housing Works Bookstore has this MASSIVE book sale where everything is a dollar. And I do mean everything. I bought this huge old french dictionary...
Sorry about the bad photo. But I took it last year. They also bring up these big trucks loaded with boxes and boxes of old clothes and you buy a big paper shopping bag for $20 and just load it up. I found a ton of different silk scarves and a bunch of great men's ties too. All for the fabric of course. Fun stuff!



I actually wound up using one of the pages of the french dictionary for this butterfly.The cover of the dictionary is really neat too. I wish I could think of something to do with it as well.















So other than the book fair I'm sure I'll just hang out at home and HOPEFULLY finish my rug. Almost there!!

Oh and if you need a good movie suggestion for the weekend:It is extremely well done! The soundtrack is equally amazing. They did such a wonderful job of working the songs into the story. We bought the soundtrack immediately after seeing the movie. Lovely.

Really? Another hobby?

woohoo! it's the weekend! it doesn't feel like it's been that long of a week though. the main thing i've been working on this week is my latch hook rug. my goal is to get it done so i can post it on the finish what you have flickr pool .
oh and i've picked yet another thing to become obsessed about....canning and preserving! actually this i've been turning around in my head for awhile. ever since i saw them can pickles on creative juice. it just looks like so much fun! canning and preserving. yeah...i want to learn how to do that next. if only i had a yard so i could grow my own veggies. i want a garden!
i think i'm going through my "i'm tired of this city" phase again. it happens every few months. i start to wish i had a house. and a yard. and more peace and quiet. like right now....i hear sirens and car alarms outside my window. plus we live really close to the airport...so yeah...add planes flying overhead. well..maybe someday. but that's no excuse to not give canning a try! at least i have access to the farmers market in union square and the chelsea market. that's where rachael ray shops! so maybe my next big purchase will be a pressure canner.

I've seen this posted a few times on different blogs so I decided to try it. And I can see why! It's so much fun to play with! It's called spell with flickr. Now go play!

Luckiest girl!!!

Today is me and the hubster's anniversary!! 7 years! And it has been a wonderful 7 years. I couldn't have found a better guy. He's sweet and loving. He has the most wonderful personality. He's goofy and has a great sense of humor! He's made me the happiest girl in the world and I love him sooooo much!!! Thank you hub for being so amazing!

Crafting ADD..

It's a serious illness that I'm sure many of us crafters suffer from. I am one of them. I can't seem to stay on one project for very long before I'm moving on to the next. It's just that once I get a new idea, I get very excited and have to start it right away! I think I'm afraid I'll forget about it. Or lose the motivation to do it.

So this is my newest project. It's the size of a sheet of paper (8 1/2 x 11). I started with a plain piece of light blue fabric and I started drawing with a black sharpie on it. I really didn't have a plan when I started. But as I was working on the top part, an image of a tree just popped in my head so I drew in the trunk. Then I colored in the sections with more sharpie. I figure, since it isn't getting washed, it should be fine. Right now I'm filling in certain areas with thread. I just want a few sections to pop out. The current problem I'm having is that I really am not happy with the sky. I was unsure to begin with what I was going to do there. So at first, I took crayons and colored a bit on it, then ran a hot iron over it to smooth out the lines. After that I added a layer of white angelina fibers over it. Then I STILL wasn't satisfied and thought it needed some texture so I put a layer of gel medium on it, then swirled embroidery floss. At this point I'm going to wait until I finish the rest of the tree, then I'll decide what to do with that mess of a sky. My fear right now, is that the gel medium might start to yellow. What about brushing a light bit of paint over some of the raised areas in the medium to highlight the texture? At some point I'm gonna have to stop cause I'm afraid I'm gonna ruin it.
